Therapeutic Riding Society
This is a project that we as a club supported last year. Please review and if you wanted to make a personal donation, that would be great.
There is a possibility if there was enough interest that the service committee could put forward a proposal for the club to match the funds
donated from the members. If you are interested please contact them directly or contact me. Thank you, Glen Clark.
Rotary Clubs help build shelters in the Philippines
December 2006, a powerful, deadly typhoon destroyed many houses along the shoreline of the island of Boracay, Philippines, that very poor
people who had little or nothing lived in. The Rotary club in that area decided to build houses for the most needy, incorporating the help of the
recipients. These houses are really just steel pipe framed shelters but according to ex Daybreak Rotarian Finn Ronne they are still better
than what most had before the storm.
Spearheaded by the Daybreak Club, and with the help of the Noon Rotary Club and other donors, a contribution of US $6,000 helped finish 25 of
the 30 houses which have been accomplished so far.
The Rotary Club of Boracay was awarded the Best Community Service Project Award in Rotary District 3850 for this shelter project. Finn Ronne,
who retired on Boracay and initiated this fundraiser is just visiting Campbell River. On July 3rd he reported to the Daybreak Rotary
Club on the big difference which this emergency help made on the lives of about 400 underprivileged people on this island.
