The project final approval has been delayed while we wait for a report from the local host club which is required before the Foundation matching grant monies can be approved.

When the approval does come within the next couple of weeks we will be required to forward our $1700 US to the noon club, the coordinator and lead club of the five.

Total leveraged funding is $24,733. The noon club have in turn committed to support us in a project that we take the lead in.

Water Project Machakos County Kenya

About 15 years ago the City of Campbell River in partnership with other organizations pooled funding and resources to actively participate in a water development project in a very impoverished area in Kenya. Phil Skognes and Doug Lang traveled to the region to participate ultimately in the building of a small dam/reservoir in this arid region.

There were legacy funds left over of about $15,000. Phil, Doug, Tim Paul, Bill Halstead, Pieter Koelman, Urban Patrick, Jennifer Brunn, Les and I have met twice now to attempt to develop a collaborative approach for a new project between the 2 Campbell River clubs, the city, perhaps other island clubs and a host club in the Machakos region near Nairobi Kenya. We have emailed three clubs in the region to determine their level of interest in a partnership. Note the attached email. We are focused on water filtration systems or other ideas a local club in the region might recommend. Tim Paul is taking a leading role in this. He is planning a trip to Africa next November.

Leverage funding through the various Rotary funds may be limited as with all invested funds these days.
